Risks of Options Trading

Cash-Secured Puts (CSP)

  • Obligation to buy shares at a fixed price (strike)
  • Capital is blocked during the term
  • Significant losses can occur upon assignment if the share price falls sharply
  • The premium received cannot fully compensate for losses

Covered Calls (CC)

  • Obligation to sell shares held in the portfolio
  • Limited profit potential when prices rise (capped at the strike)
  • When prices fall, the premium offers only limited protection
  • Potential opportunity costs in strongly rising markets

Wheel Strategy

  • Combining CSP and CC requires continuous capital
  • Losses can occur in volatile markets
  • No guarantee of continuous premium income
  • Market risk remains (delta exposure)
